Is the JDM Vanquish 4000XG cheaper than the US VQ4000XGC?
It depends on the exchange rate. The official list prices are ¥67,500 for the Japanese 4000XG (before consumption tax) and $539.99 for the US VQ4000XGC (US MSRP). We do not convert currencies. Dividing one by the other, the Japanese list price is the lower number when one US dollar buys more than ¥125.
- Japan: Shimano Japan's "本体価格" (base price; the page marks it 税別, before consumption tax), Shimano Japan page, checked 2026-10-11.
- US: Shimano North America's MSRP on fish.shimano.com, Shimano US page, checked 2026-10-11.
The Japanese figure excludes Japan's consumption tax (the page says so); the US page shows its price without mentioning tax. Shipping, import duties and shop prices are not included. Japan list prices are the makers' base prices before consumption tax (Shimano "本体価格", marked 税別; Daiwa "メーカー希望本体価格", marked 税抜). US prices are Shimano North America and Daiwa USA MSRP, or for Shimano baitcasting reels the price on Shimano North America's official online store. Source dates are shown with each record (2026-10-11 or 2026-10-13). We do not convert currencies or add tax. Prices can change; check the current price on the official page. Shop prices and stock are not shown. About prices

Do the numbers match?
We convert the Japanese figures and compare them with the US table. Small gaps within rounding (0.15 oz, 1 lb, 0.6 in) count as a match.
| Item | JDM 4000XG | USDM VQ4000XGC | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gear ratio | 6.2:1 | 6.2:1 | Matches after unit conversion |
| Weight | 205 g (≈ 7.2 oz) | 7.2 oz | Matches after unit conversion |
| Max drag | 11 kg (≈ 24.3 lb) | 24 lb | Matches after unit conversion |
| Retrieve per crank | 101 cm (≈ 39.8 in) | 40 in | Matches after unit conversion |
Line capacity is not compared value by value: Japan rates PE line in gō (号) × metres, while the US table uses lb test × yards for a named braid, and the two cannot be converted exactly.
What only the Japanese listing gives you
- Product code and JAN: 045355 / 4969363045355. Use these to match a Japanese retailer's listing and to order parts.
- Practical drag: 6 kg (a separate maker figure the US table does not give).
- Spool: 52 mm dia. / 19 mm stroke.
- Yumeya spool type: S-28. See which Yumeya spools Shimano lists with the same type.
Officially listed compatibility applies to the Japanese reel as listed in Japan. We have not found a statement from Shimano that the US version takes the same parts, so we do not say it does.
